Mrs. Conrad Elmer Passed Away Monday At Waterloo Hospital

Mrs. Conrad Elmer died at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 29. She was sixty-three years of age and had been taken to the hospital and underwent an operation Monday of last week. A short time before her death her condition was reported slightly improved.

Mrs. Elmer was born in Switzerland and moved here from Monroe, Wis., forty-seven years ago. She is survived by her husband and five children: Mrs. Henry Blesie, Mrs. John Baumgartner and Mrs. Frank French, all of Renwick, Mrs. Albert Smith of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Peter Hoesly of Madison, Neb. There are also three brothers, Dietrich Elmer of Renwick, John Elmer of Monroe, Wis., and Jacob Elmer of Hebron, N. D. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical church.

Mrs. Conrad Elmer

Mrs. Anna Elmer was born in Matt, Canton Glarus, Switzerland, on March 1, 1873. When eight years old she came to America with her parents, the family locating at Monroe, Wis. She was educated in the public schools. Both of her parents died when she was a child and she made her home at various places, living one year with the Schneider family.

She was united in marriage with Conrad Elmer on May 31, 1890, and they established their home on the present Elmer farm one mile west of Renwick where they have resided for the past fort-six years. Five daughters were born to this union, all of whom with the husband survive her. They are Mrs. Barbara Hoesly of Madison, Neb., Mrs. Marie Blesie, Mrs. Anna Baumgartner and Mrs. Rachel French of Renwick, and Mrs. Helen Smith of Fort Dodge, and there are ten grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Dietrich Elmer of Renwick, John Elmer of Monroe, Wis., and Jacob Elmer of Hebron, N. D., and many other relatives and a host of friends. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Elmer united early in life with the Evangelical church and was always a true and faithful member. She was a loving wife and mother and a friend to all and will be greatly missed by her family, her church and the community.

She had been in poor health for some time and on Monday, June 22, underwent an operation at St. Francis hospital in Waterloo, and her death followed just a week later, Monday, June 29, 1936. Funeral services were held at the Evangelical church on Thursday afternoon, July 2, at 2 o'clock, with the pastor, Rev. Laurence Sohl, officiating. Burial was made at the Swiss cemetery.

Among the relatives where were here from a distance to attend the funeral were: John Elmer and Mrs. Lizzie Elmer of Monroe, Wis., Jacob Elmer of Hebron, N. D., Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hoesly and daughter, Mrs. Markus Hoesly, Mrs. Henry Walter, Mrs. Sam Hoesly, Miss Elsie Streblo, Mr. and Mrs. Gigax and Mrs. Arthur Scheffler and children, all of Creston, Neb., John Schneider and Miss Lena Elmer of Minneapolis, Minn.
