Donald F. Mathey, 86, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20th at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Colfax Township Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.

Surviving is his wife, Arlene; daughters, Donna Quick and her husband Greg of Marion, Karen Skophammer and her husband Tom of Fort Dodge, Vicki Tegethoff and her husband Jim of St Charles, MO; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helena (Moench) Mathey; sisters, Mildred Schroeder and Elda Mathey; son-in-law, Les Longhauser.

Donald Frank Mathey was born January 12, 1924 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended St Paul Lutheran School thru 8th grade and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1942. Following his education he joined the Army, serving from 1943-1946 on the 602 tank destroyer battalion in the European Theater during WWII in Patton's Army where he earned 4 battle stars. After his honorable discharge, he worked at Fort Dodge Labs and Sieg Fort Dodge. On May 7, 1950 he was united in marriage to Arlene Rasmann at St Paul Lutheran Church and they established their home in Fort Dodge. In 1952, he began working at the Fort Dodge Post Office and retired in 1984 after 32 years of employment.

Donald was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church where he served on various boards and committees for 15 years. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 130, past President of N.A.R.F.E, and a member of AARP. Memorials may be left to the St Paul Building Fund, the American Heart Association, or Fort Dodge Hospice.
