Harvard resident, Harry Adrian LaBarr Jr., 83, passed away, Sunday, April 13, 2008 at home. Services will be Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 1:30 PM at the Harvard United Methodist Church, Harvard, NE, with the Rev. Dale Coates officiating. Burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery, Harvard, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 12 noon to 9 PM at the Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home, Harvard, NE and 1 hour prior to service time at the church.

Harry was born May 2, 1924 to Harry A. Sr. and Blanche (Ketchum) LaBarr on the family farm near Clarion, Iowa. He was mechanically gifted, had his pilot’s license for a time and worked as a welder and maintenance man in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He served in the US Navy near the end of WWII. He met his wife Mona Morris in Seattle, WA while in the Navy and they were married in Clarion, Iowa on January 25, 1948. In 1962 he moved his family to Hastings to work for Farmland Industries where he worked in instrumentation. The family then moved to Harvard in 1963.

Harry was a charter member of the Harvard Lions Club, serving 2 terms as president. He was a past member of the planning/zoning board, and served on the city council and was a member of the Harvard Rest Haven board of directors. Harry also worked tirelessly for Harvard’s first Rescue Unit. Harry was known for his sense of humor and lately developed culinary skills; he was a loving husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Mona of Harvard, 4 daughters, Madeline (Meg) and husband Richard Kruse of Harvard, NE, Nora LaBarr and Penny LaBarr of Hastings, NE, and Trudy LaBarr of Mason City, Iowa, 1 sister, Jean Miner of Everrett, WA, 1 brother-in-law, Ronald Moses of Ames, Iowa, 1 sister-in-law and husband JoRea and Donald Inglin of Raymond, WA, 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lois Moses and Beth Baker. Memorials may be given to the Harvard Fire and Rescue Department, the Harvard Rest Home or the Hastings Lions Club.
