CLINTON, IA — Edward R. Collopy, 89, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Wednesday July 10, 2013, at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Following the service, cremation rites will be accorded, and burial will be in St. Irenaeus Calvary cemetery, Clinton.

Ed was born on Aug. 12, 1923, the son of Paul J. and Minnie (Eastman) Collopy. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School. Ed was a chief petty officer in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He married Mary Terese McDonald on April 19, 1947, in Clinton. Mary passed away on March 18, 1989. Ed was employed with the Chicago Northwestern, Milwaukee Road and Rock Island Lines railroads. He later worked as a maintenance mechanic at ALCOA, retiring in 1985. He was an avid antique collector, loved to repair things, and had volunteered at the Clinton County Historical Society.

Ed is survived by two sons, Steven (Deb) Collopy of Epworth, Iowa, and Christopher (Deb) Collopy of Clinton; two grandchildren, Nick (Jackie) Collopy of Minooka, Ill., and Ashley (Nick) Mueller of Milwaukee; a great-grandson, Kellen Collopy; two sisters, Evelyn Finley of Des Moines, and Ellen Nelson of Waupaca, Wis; two brothers, Lloyd (Helen) Collopy of Lake City, Minn., and Bill Collopy of Riverside, Calif.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the Delmar Depot Railroad Museum, Delmar, Iowa.
