Mel Beaver Found Dead on Farm Near Lisbon

Mel G. Beaver, well known farmer of Lisbon vicinity and a resident since 1905 was found dead in a pasture on the Beaver farm four miles west of Lisbon Thursday last week. Beaver had gone down to the pasture to look after some sheep. His body was discovered by a small boy, who followed Beaver's dog to the place where he lay. Beaver's brother Ben, was just returning from the funeral of a friend, Fred Wall, when the youngster came up with the news of his brother. Mel Beaver was unmarried. With his brother Ben he had operated their farm for many years. He was born July 18, 1867 at Eagle Grove Ia and was 75. He came to Lisbon in 1905. Funeral services were Saturday June 27 at 2 o'clock from the Lorner funeral home with the Rev. A. B. Smith officiating and interment in the Oakwood cemetery. Oddfellows attended in a body and Mrs. A. B. Smith was vocalist. Besides his brother and partner, Ben, Beaver is survived by a sister, Mrs. D. K. Anderson, a sister-in-law Mrs. W. C. Beaver and a niece, Miss Dorothy Beaver. The latter two are of Fort Dodge Ia and came here to attend the funeral.
