Daniel Erickson was born in Vikedahl, Norway, December 2, 1884, the third of nine children to Erick and Borghild (Johannson) Stolsmark. He passed away in his home near Hanley Falls, Minnesota, on Monday, February 4, 1957, at the age of 72 years, as a result of a very sudden heart attack after a day of fishing, his usual winter pastime. He came to the United States for the first time in 1902, and worked for a little more than five years near Eagle Grove, Iowa. In 1908, after a brief visit to Norway, he returned again with his brother, Erick, before they returned to the farm near Hanley Falls, Minnesota.
In 1924 he returned to Norway and was united in marriage to Miss Gunda Kaldheim on May 18, 1925, in Stavanger. A few months later they came to Hanley Falls, where they have lived and farmed to this time. To this union were born three daughters: Doris, Mae Belle and Borghild Gundrun.
Daniel Erickson was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Norway and has been an active member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church of Hanley Falls, serving as a trustee and on the Board of Parish Education.
