April 3, 1871 --- February 7, 1961
Susie Ness was born in Grundy county near Lisbon, Illinois, on April 3, 1871. She passed away February 7, 1961, at the age of 89 years. Her parents were Tolleiv and Britha (Fladeraker) Hanson, pioneers of Grundy County. At the age of 12 years, she moved with her parents to Ford County, Illinois, where she resided until her marriage to James Ness in the year of 1890. To this union were born three children.
They made their home in Illinois for one and one-half years, and in the spring of 1892, they moved to Iowa and lived on a farm near Kanawha, until the year 1902, when they came to Minnesota. For the next eight years they were engaged in farming in the township of Swede Prairie in Yellow Medicine County. In 1910 the family moved to Minneota, Minnesota, where they lived for a number of years. They returned to the farm for a short time and then moved to Dawson, Minnesota, where they lived for a number of years. In 1937 they moved to Clarkfield where they resided until the death of her husband in 1949. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. A. M. Hawkinson, in Swede Prairie where she had been confined to her bed for the past three months.
Mrs. Ness was preceded in death by her husband and one son, who died in infancy. She is survived by one daughter, Rachel (Mrs. A.M. Hawkinson) of Swede Prairie Township, and one son, Melvin of Norco, California. Mrs. Ness is also survived by seven grandchildren and a large number of relatives.
