Arlene Montandon, 89, of Clarion passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Iowa Specialty Hospital of Clarion. Funeral services for Arlene Montandon will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the United Methodist Church, 100 Northrup Street in Dows with Pastor Brian Cushman officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion and will continue one hour prior to the service.

Arlene Mabel Montandon was born on December 15, 1923, to William and Amelia (Hipp) Schroeder on the family farm near Williams. Arlene grew up on a farm outside of Dows and graduated from Williams High School in 1941. In 1942, she married Harold L. Montandon in Buffalo, New York and they shared 61 years together before he passed away on May 28, 2003. Arlene and Harold farmed for many years and she loved helping him work on the farm. She loved baking and cooking. She also enjoyed painting homes and buildings with her sister, Velma. For over 17 years Arlene and Harold spent winters in Las Vegas and Texas.

Arlene is survived by her children, Monty (Julie) Montandon of Estherville, Larry (Verona) Montandon of Dows and Glory (Bob) Chapman of Clarion; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilbur Schroeder of Dows, Melvin (Josie) Schroeder of Fort Dodge, Harold (Lannie) Schroeder of Colorado and sister, Erma Cullinan of Clarion. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; grandson, Troy; sister, Velma VanGerpen and brother, Walter Schroeder. Arlene will be missed by all her family and friends. Please celebrate Arlene’s life-not mourn her death.
