Mrs. Artie Baker, 63, Succumbs to Illness

Mrs. Leo Baker, the former Artie Ginkens Haines, died at her home east of Promise City on Tuesday, March 2, [1954] following a six month illness. She had been hospitalized at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines until coming to her home about a month ago. She was 63 years old. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Mullen, Neb. and a member of the American Legion auxiliary at Seymour. She had taught school for a number of years in several Iowa towns and also in Colorado. Her last teaching was at Belmond. She is survived by her husband Leo, one daughter, Mrs. George Fowler of Anchorage, Alaska and two sons, Robert and Richard Haines of Rapid City, S.D., four grandchildren, Jeff and Vickie Haines and Bobby and Ann Fowler, two brothers, Lloyd and Austin Ginkens of Mullen, Nebr., two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Entsminger of Mount Harris, Colorado and Mrs. Bessie Bear of Plano. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at the Promise City Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronald Dold officiating. Burial was in Crossroads Cemetery [Plano, Iowa].
