Howard Geesman, age 87, of Eagle Grove and formerly of Burt, died on Friday, April 26, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Burt Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Glenn Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Burt Township Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Carter-Stott VFW Post #5236 of Burt. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until service time at the church on Tuesday.

Howard R. Geesman “Pete”, the son of John C. and Stella (Schroeder) Geesman, was born on May 16, 1925 in the family farm home near Alden, MN. He was raised on the family farm, went to work at the age of 14 years old. Howard was drafted into the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1943 and served during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific. He was honorably discharged in Feb. 1946 at the Great Lakes Naval training station at Chicago Ill.

On August 5, 1946, Howard was united in marriage to Marilyn V. Boettcher in a small church in Sioux Falls, S.D. They made their first home in Burt, Iowa. Later moving to Odin, Minn. and back to Burt to retire. Pete was a member of the VFW his whole life and twice past commander. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, playing cards, fishing, fairs and dancing with his wife. He also enjoyed writing poetry and many songs, which he often shared with his family and friends. He recited all his songs and poems by memory.

Pete loved gathering with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Gena, Charles, Nina, Jim, Gerald, Lila, and Earl. Howard went to his forever home on April 26, 2013 at his home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 87. Left to cherish Howard's memory is his wife of 67 years, Marilyn; his children, Nicholas J. Geesman (Susan), Hayden Lake, ID, Joan (Jon) McCarthy, Madison, WI, Londa Geesman, Richland Center, WI, Pamela (Dawson) Juhl, Eagle Grove, IA; seven grandchildren, Chad Geesman, Dawn Williams, Deon Juhl, Angela Page, Allison Salmon, Dani Eisentrager, Cameo Lease; great grandchildren, Nash, Bailey, Oakley, Riley, Ashley, Derek, Parker, Dayton, Jarika, Keegan, Adyssie, Jayden, Sean, Coraline, Dustin, Nicholle; great great grandchildren, Hope, T.J., Raelynn Skye, Saraina Faith; one brother, John Geesman, Charles City; one sister, Florance White, Fargo, S.D.
