To Hold Rites Saturday for Mrs. Thompson

Estherville – Mrs. Blanche Thompson, 84, died at 1:30 p.m. May 9 in Rosewood Manor. She had been a resident of the manor since 1970. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Reese-Henry Chapel, Estherville, with the Rev. Max Goldman of United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral after noon on Friday. She was born Jan. 2, 1890 at Brockton, Mass., to Sam and Jennie Cox Johnston. She was brought to Iowa at the age of 10 months and was educated in Estherville schools. In 1919 she was married to Henry Thompson. Mrs. Thompson served as housemother at Grinnell College from 1950 to 1960. She had been a member of the Methodist Church since 1903, a charter member of the Alpha Club of Methodist Church, a member of Estherville Woman's Club and of Eastern Star. Survivors include one son, Robert Thompson of Sioux City; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Johnston of Darien, Conn.
