John A. Rockow, 73, Cumberland, Wis., died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at his home. He was born Oct. 26, 1930, at Dows, Iowa, to John and Agnes (Lentz) Rockow. He married Lucille Peterson on June 16, 1951, at Barron. He was a dairy farmer in the Town of Clinton for most of his life. He also worked for five years at the Cumberland Advocate and the Rice Lake Chronotype. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, the families' home in Colorado and his dog, Peanut. He also enjoyed planting trees, telling jokes, spending time with his grandchildren at tractor pulls and ice hockey.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Jack (Marilyn), Allen and James, all of Cumberland; daughters, Cindy Rockow of Milwaukee and Laura Rockow of Cumberland; grandchildren, Jason, Jadi and Mitchell, Sierra and Ateya Rockow and Graham and Travis Miller; and a brother, Melvin (Elsie) of Eau Claire. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary; his parents; a sister, Donna; and a brother, Arnold.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 1, from First Lutheran Church, Cumberland, Rev. Randy Olson officiating. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Wayside Cemetery, Barron. Jason Rockow, Ricky Swanson, Ron Kieffer, Ron Frie, Alvin Hecht and Andy Hecht will serve as pallbearers.
