ELKHART, INDIANA — Col. Richard G. Trout, 86, of Elkhart, died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, in his residence. Richard was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Manning and Buelah (Fielder) Trout. He married Frances Willie on Sept. 25, 1948. She survives along with a son, Craig Trout of Elkhart; a daughter, Lynn (Fred) Lands of Elkhart; a granddaughter, Heather (Greg) Magnusen of Zionsville; two grandsons, Stephen and Sean Trout, both of Elkhart; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Audrey Magnusen of Zionsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manning and Buelah Trout; and his siblings, Helen Mayer and Robert Trout.

Richard served in two wars. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radioman. He then received his law degree from Drake University. He spent more than 30 years in the U.S. Air Force in the Judge Advocate General Corps. Richard spent a tour of duty in Vietnam where he received the Bronze Star. During his years of service, he also received the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and Humanitarian Service Medal. He retired from the Air Force as a colonel.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at St. Mary’s of the Annunciation, Bristol. Father Robert Van Kempen will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
