Funeral Rites For Mrs. R. Paine At Ree Heights Oct. 26

Mrs. Roger Paine, 79, passed away October 18 at Stuart, Fla. She had left Ree Heights [South Dakota] for her Florida home just three weeks before her death, and had been in the hospital there for about a week. A daughter, Mrs. Herb Specker, was with her. Funeral services will be held at the United Church of Christ Congregational, at Ree Heights at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Rev. Milo Sheldon will officiate.

Bessie May Kennedy, daughter of Samuel and Clara Kennedy, was born in Clinton County, Iowa, May 29, 1889. The family moved to a farm near Goldfield, Iowa, where she grew up, taught for a time and on March 24, 1908, was married to Roger Paine. In 1916 they moved to Ree Heights, where they were engaged in farming and later in the telephone business and for many years in the implement business. Following retirement they divided their time between their winter home in Florida and their home in Ree Heights. Mrs. Paine was an active member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational, and a charter member of Maxwell Chapter O.E.S., where she would have been honored soon as a 50 year member.

Mrs. Paine's husband preceded her in death just a year ago, on October 9, 1967. She is survived by two sons, David, Bryant, S.D., Roger, Glen Ellen, Calif., five daughters, Mrs. Herb Specker, (Betty) Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Hoyt Nicholas, (Florence); Mrs. Wayne McGee (Jane); Mrs. Clare Cahoon (Orilla); Mrs. Francis Deuter (Lois), all of Ree Heights; two brothers and two sisters, Everett Kennedy, Iowa; Mrs. Dick McGowen, Ottumwa, and 39 great-grandchildren.

Reck Funeral Home, Miller, is in charge of arrangements. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and burial will be in Morningside Cemetery at Ree Heights. The family prefers church memorials. Friends may call at the Funeral Home Friday evening.
