Mary Maxine Richter was born October 23, 1924, "7 miles from nowhere" near Kanawha, the daughter of George and Evelyn (Sheets) Gray. She grew up near Kanawha and graduated from Corwith High School. Mary was married to Francis E. "Frank" Richter on September 14, 1944 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith. Mary and Frank farmed east of Wesley and moved into town in 1971. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards, bowling, and dancing. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley and the St. Joseph Ladies Guild. Her greatest love was being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mary M. Richter died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt at the age of 87. She is survived by nine children, Connie (Walt) Smith of Rock Hill, SC, Georgene Garman of Wesley, Steve (Scherry) Richter of Romona, CA, Bill (Cathie) Richter of Whittemore, Phil (Rhonda) Richter of Malvern, Tom (Lori) Richter of Wesley, Mark (Tina) Richter of Johnstown, OH, Jeff (Janice) Richter of Wesley, and Jim (Julie) Richter of Corwith; 39 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Ramona (Gene) Arndorfer of Algona, Ardys Myer of West Des Moines, Joan Hallman of Urbandale, and Rita (Dick) Nordquist of Lino Lakes, MN; one brother Jerry (Donna) Gray of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank on May 5, 2002; twin infant daughters, Mary and Marlene; three sisters, Donna Knoll, Shirley Molendorp and Elizabeth in infancy; and four brothers, Jack, Paul, and Don Gray, and James in infancy.
