Funeral services for Ruby H. Groh, 86, Urbandale, formerly of Hardy, were held Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church in Des Moines, with burial in the Vernon Township Cemetery at Hardy. She died Sunday, Aug 29, 1999, at her home. The Brooks Funeral Home of Des Moines was in charge of the arrangements, with the Dr. Rev. Richard Rehfeldt officiating.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Henry; two daughters, Shirley Jaeger and Sharon Kay Groh; one grandson, David Jaeger; two brothers, Raymond and Russell Gorrell; and a sister Hazel.
Ruby Helen Gorrell, daughter of Andrew and Dora (Reed) Gorrell, was born Aug. 1, 1913, on a farm near Bogota, IL. At the age of five, her family moved to a farm near Hardy. She completed her formal education at the Renwick High School, graduating in 1931. For several years, she was employed as the local telephone operator in Renwick. In 1936 she was united in marriage to Henry Groh at Renwick. The couple lived and farmed around the Renwick - Hardy area, and in 1947 moved to Livermore. Her husband died in 1982. In 1996 she moved to Urbandale, making her home with her son and daughter-in-law.
She was a member of the neighborhood "500" Card Club for many years, and was also a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Renwick, before moving to Urbandale and becoming a member of the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church.
