C. H. Packard, 71, Died Tuesday P.M. at Britt

C. H. Packard, 71, died Tuesday afternoon at his home in Britt following a few hours illness. A blood clot reaching the heart was reported as the cause. News of Mr. Packard's death came unexpectedly to relatives and friends in this community, although the immediate family had been notified of his illness and were at his bedside when he passed away. He was reported to have suffered a slight stroke some weeks ago but had recovered and appeared in fairly good health.

Mr. Packard was a farmer and the family resided in this community for many years. he is survived by his wife and five children. He moved to Britt a year and a half ago. Two brothers, C. A. Packard and Will Packard and one daughter, Mrs. J. E. Janes, reside her. Another brother, S. J. Packard, recently moved to Corwith. Many other close relatives reside in this and nearby communities.

Funeral services will be held at the J. E. Janes home in Renwick at 1:30 and at the Baptist church at 2 o'clock this Thursday afternoon. A full obituary will be published next week.

Funeral Services Held Thursday Afternoon For C. H. Packard

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the J. E. Janes home and at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church for C. H. Packard who died the previous Tuesday afternoon at his home in Britt. Rev. E. F. Thompson officiated and burial was made in Elmwood Cemetery.

Charles Henry Packard, son of Charles and Mary Packard, was born at Luni in Boone township, in Wright county, Iowa, on March 23, 1869 and died at his home in Britt, Iowa, on August 27, 1940, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 4 days. Death came as the result of coronary thrombosis.

On November 9, 1882, he was united in marriage to Nellie E. Williams, also of Boone township. To this union six children were born: Harry H. of St. Ansgar, Mrs. J. E. (Maud) Janes of Renwick, Mrs. Ben (Winifred) Asche of Britt, Charles of Welcome, Minn., Mrs. Byron (Marjory) Virtue of Ames, and Francis Packard Severeid who died December 2, 1933.

Mr. Packard united with the Luni Baptist church in 1915 and later transferred his membership to the Renwick church of which he was a member at the time of his death. He had spent the greater part of his life in the vicinity of Renwick, with the exception of four years on a farm northwest of Britt and the past two years living in Britt. He was the oldest survivor of the first born of Boone township.

He is survived by his wife and five children above named, a granddaughter, Phyllis, who has lived with the grandparents since the death of her mother, and 15 other grandchildren; also three brothers, S. J. Packard of Corwith, C. A. and W. A. Packard of Renwick. Four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

All of the immediate members of the family were here for the funeral and also the following relatives: Mrs. Cora E. Carr and Miss Blanch Janes of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Williams and Gale of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. Anfin Shurson of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Mamie Sheriden of Rutland, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Simpson of Mountain Lake, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Prull of Ceylon, Minn, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Packard of Maquoketa, Mrs. Reymond Bonnsetter and Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Packard of Corwith, Carroll Packard of Edna, Mrs. Nate Nimmo of Britt, Mr. and Mrs. O. Minor, Mr. and Mrs. Weert Asche and Mr. and Mrs. Claus Asche of Kanawha. Many old friends also here from away.
