Funeral services for Maurice F. Nissen, 79, Renwick, were held last Friday April 12, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick, with burial in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha. He died Wednesday, April 10, at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City. The Garry - Roberts - Murphy - Schaaf Funeral Home of Renwick was in charge of arrangements, with the Rev. Oliver Everson and Dr. Palmer Wold officiating....
Maurice F. Nissen was born Sept. 13, 1911, at Whittemore. He was baptized in Boone and confirmed in 1925 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick. In 1929, he graduated from Renwick High School. After graduation, he took a short course in animal husbandry at Iowa State University, Ames. In 1935, he was united in marriage to Ada Freerksen at Kanawha. They farmed north of Renwick until retiring in 1974, moving into Renwick in 1979. He was a former church council member, former member of the choir and former Sunday School superintendent. He served on the Farmers Coop Elevator Board in Renwick, was parade marshal for the 1982 Boone Valley homecoming parade and was active on the Renwick Centennial Committee, having written a book entitled, "The Renwick I Remember." He belonged to the Iowa Donkey and Mule Society and served as the secretary/treasurer and newsletter editor from 1975 until 1981.
