Mrs. Fred Southwick Passed Away Saturday

Mrs. Fred Southwick, who had been an invalid for several years passed away at her home her last Saturday evening. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Methodist church with the Rev. George R. McDowell in charge. Burial was made in Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield.

Matilda Jane Dalbey was born in Olin, Jones County, Iowa, February 12, 1864, and died at her home in Renwick, Iowa, July 25, 1931, at the age of 67 years, 5 months and 13 days. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Dalbey and one of a family of seven children. Her parents, two sisters and four brothers having preceded her in death. For several years she was a successful teacher in the schools of Jones county.

She was united in marriage to Fred Southwick on March 5, 1887, at Tipton, Iowa, and to this union four children were born: Mrs. Dess Richardson, of Renwick, Mrs. Lucille Paulson, of Britt, Glen Southwick, of Fort Dodge, and Maude McGowan, now deceased. In the year 1882 she came to Hancock county with her husband, settling on a farm near Corwith, Iowa, later selling out and moving to Renwick where they have since made their home.

Upon moving to Renwick, Mrs. Southwick united with the Methodist church and since that time her one interest, outside of her home has been the Church and it's activities. She has been an invalid for a number of years and through all her suffering, her faith in her Master never waned. She was always of a hopeful and cheerful disposition and had a kind word and a pleasant smile for everyone. She was a true Christian, a devoted wife and a loving mother, and numbered her friends by her acquaintances.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, two daughters, one son, six grandchildren, three brothers and one sister. One grandson, Bobby McGowan, having preceded her in death.

"Oh Lord support us all day long in this troublesome life, until the shadows lengthen and evening comes, and the busy world is hushed and the fervor of life is over and our work is done. Then of they great mercy, grand us a safe lodging and a holy rest, and peace at the last through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Relatives from away who were here for the funeral were: Mrs. C. M. Gearheart of Omaha, Neb., Merve Dalbey and son of Los Angeles, Calf., T. H. Dalbey of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Dalbey of Mt. Ayr, Mrs. J. W. Ballou of Clarence, Mrs. Cora Rummel and Miss Ocey Loobey of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Emily Carter and daughter of Ames, Mrs. Fred Rummel, Mrs. Dr. Studebaker and Miss Helen Thompson, Fort Dodge, Mrs. Elva Vest and Mrs. Bertha Loobey of Goldfield, and Miss Anna Paulson of Britt.
