JAS. FLOYD MAXWELL BURIED AT CORY GROVE

James Floyd Maxwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Maxwell was born January 17, 1887, near Elkhart, Iowa, and departed this life at his home one mile east of Livermore, Ia., Saturday morning June 13, 1931, at the age of 42 years, 4 months, and 26 days. His childhood and early manhood was spent near Elkhart and Cambridge, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at his home at Livermore on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. Reyman, pastor of the M.E. church at Livermore conducted the services. The body was brought to the Cory Grove church Monday afternoon, June 15th, and services were held at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Payne officiating. Interment was made in the Cory Grove cemetery.

He leaves to mourn his departure an aged mother, Mrs. Mary Hatfield, three sisters, Elizabeth Hawkins of Humboldt, Iowa; Ethel Carpenter of Des Moines; and Ethel Lee of Dakota and a half brother, Forrest Hatfield of Livermore, besides a host of relatives and friends. He was a loving son and brother, a kind neighbor and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His father preceded him in death May 24, 1896.

Private Maxwell went into the World War service April 26, 1918, trained at Camp Dodge, Iowa and Camp Travis, Texas, he was assigned to Company M, 360th Infantry and left the United States June 14th, 1918. He landed in France June 22nd of the same year and stationed at Nevers, France. He was sent to the trenches on June 26th and was first in the drive at St. Mihiel. During the battle at the Argonne Forest he was wounded in the left arm by a high explosive shell and sent to the hospital in France on October 11th and there remained until December 8th when he was placed on board ship and came over as a hospital patient. He landed in New York on December 20th and remained in the hospital there until December 30th, then was sent to Camp Dodge where he was discharged on January 14, 1919.

Military services were conducted by the American Legion of Cambridge and Bondurant. The deceased was a member of the American Legion at Renwick, Ia.
