22 September 1869 --- 26 August 1934

Henry Groen, was born in Folmhusen, Ostfriesland, Germany, on Sept 22, 1869 and passed away at this home in Belmond, Iowa at the age of 64 years, 11 mo, 27 days. He emigrated to the United States at the age of 16 years arriving Holland in Grundy, Co. Iowa on March 1, 1886. In 1890 he came to the vicinity of Belmond where he engaged in farming until he retired in 1920 and moved to the city of Belmond. Preceded by one son Henry; survived by his wife and nine children: Tena Traeger, Meservey; Reka Schulte, Alexander; Nettie Groen; Newark, New Jersey; Jennie Ehlo, Minnie Moody, .... Austin, Minn; Reka Groen Nelson and George, both of Caldwell, Idaho and John Groen of Belmond, Iowa. Also two sisters Mrs. Wm Bohning of South Dakota and Mrs. Harm Menke of Garner, Iowa; and four brothers, James, Ladysmith, Wisc; Harm Groen, Meservey; Chris Groen, Belmond, and Charlie Groen, Fairmont, Minn., also 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral at Belmond Congregational Church. Rev Poppen of Immanuel in charge, burial, Immanuel Cemetery.
