Gladys L. Ehret, 90, of Harwood Heights, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 12, 2007. Funeral services for Gladys Ehret were held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at St. James Lutheran Church in Harwood Heights, Illinois. Burial took place at Acacia Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Kolbus-May Funeral Home in Chicago.

Gladys L. Anderson Ehret, the daughter of Ole and Nettie Peterson Anderson was born on April 15, 1917 on a farm near Corwith, Iowa. After the death of her mother in 1921, Gladys was raised by her grandparents, Lars and Martha Peterson and her Aunt Lillie Peterson. Gladys was baptized and confirmed in the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She attended school in Kanawha, graduating from Kanawha High School at the age of 17. After graduating, Gladys left Iowa for Chicago, Illinois to attend nurse's training at Lutheran Deaconess School.

Gladys married Philip Ehret in 1950 and to this union two daughters were born, Phyllis and Mary Helen. She was widowed in 1956 and was left to raise her two daughters with the help of her Aunt Lillie. Gladys worked as a school nurse, as nurse for Dr. Hanson in Chicago and she ended her career working at Holy Family Hospital. In 1982 she went back to school at St. Francis Joliet and received her Bachelor's Degree.

Gladys was the beloved wife of the late Philip J.; loving mother of Phyllis (James Sapieka) Ehret and Mary (Biff) Bergner; cherished grandmother of Laura, Nora, Jamie, John and Elizabeth; dear sister of the late Orvin (Betty), Mildred (Robert) Carlsen and Thelma (the late Roger) Jensen; many loving nieces and nephews in the Chicago area; along with numerous cousins and friends in Iowa, Chicago, Minnesota and Norway.

For the last three and a half years Gladys has been taken care of in her home by nurse Zena who attended to her every need. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care provided.
