Thelma (Anderson) Jensen, 84, of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, passed away on January 23, 2006 at her home.
Thelma Arlene Anderson, daughter of Ole and Nettie Peterson Anderson was born on 26 May 1921 near Corwith, Iowa. Thelma's mother passed away when she was six months old, so her aunt, Lillie Peterson, and her grandparents, Lars and Martha Peterson, raised Thelma and her two sisters and one brother in their Kanawha home. She came to believe in Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and followed Him throughout her life. Thelma graduated from Kanawha schools and was confirmed in the Kanawha Lutheran Church. After graduation, she moved to Chicago which is where her sisters worked.
In November of 1944, Thelma married Roger Jensen in Chicago on 22 November 1944. They became the proud parents of two children Robert and Nancy. Her husband passed away from cancer in 1960 and Thelma raised the two children, working for many years as an executive secretary. Her sister, Gladys, knew exactly what Thelma was facing as she was also a young widow who was raising two girls.
Thelma was a member of Elk Grove Baptist Church, Elk Grove, Illinois. Her faith was always an important part of her life. She served the church in many ways, including as youth sponsor, soloist, choir director, deaconess, and Women's Fellowship President. In her later years Thelma was as active in church life as she could be, faithful in attendance and always speaking words of encouragement to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roger; her aunt Lille Peterson; her grandparents; an infant granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Jensen; her brother – Orvin Anderson; and her sister – Mildred Carlsen.
