Genevieve Carter, 93, of Decorah, Iowa died Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah. Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 15 at 2 p.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home, by Rev. Marion Pruitt Miller. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation begins Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home one hour before the service.

Genevieve C. Carter, the daughter of Neal and Maude (Marsh) Clancy, was born on June 22, 1910 on a farm near Hardy, Humboldt County, Iowa. She received her early education in Hardy and graduated from Renwick High School. She was united in marriage to Marion H. Carter at her parent's home on June 11, 1931. Genevieve Carter and her family made their home at Thor, Iowa, where her husband practiced veterinary medicine until 1952. They later lived in Webster City, Iowa, Fairmont and Austin, Minn. Her husband died Aug. 4, 1972. Genevieve Carter moved to Decorah, where she resided the remainder of her life. In recent years she was a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Home. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Survivors include a son, Dennis Carter of Decorah; a daughter, Mary Lou Rauk of Decorah; a daughter, Susan Carter of St. Paul, Minn.; a son, Neal and his wife, Carol Gallagher of Williamsville, Vt.; and a daughter, Lorraine Borowski of Decorah; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Genevieve Carter was preceded in death by her parents, Neal and Maude Clancy and by her husband, Marion Carter.
