Everett E. Lane, 94, of Dakota City, died Monday, May 23, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Badger Lutheran Church in Badger. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Humboldt.

Everett Edwin Lane was born Oct. 17, 1910, on a farm near Saylorville, the son of Otis and Alta (Harvey) Lane. As a child, he moved with his family to Minnesota and then to the Fort Dodge area, where he attended country schools. Following his education, he began farming and married Mary Rutter. Following her death in childbirth, he married Alice Gjerstad in 1941. The couple farmed in the Fort Dodge, Thor, Livermore and Ottosen areas until he retired from farming in 1972. The couple then made their home at Dakota City, and he worked for DeKalb Seed Corn Company and area farmers, and served as county weed commissioner. He was a member of Badger Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing, card playing and following the Chicago Cubs and his grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Susan and Pat Lawler of Ames, Harold "Sonny" and Marilyn Lane of Livermore, Jim and Dorothy Lane of Storm Lake, and Bruce and Claire Lane of Greeley, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and sister, Leona Gjerstad of Dodge City, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary; his second wife, Alice; one daughter, Doris Pressler; two infant sons; and two brothers, Floyd and Delmar.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Mason Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
