Merrynell (Nell) Rolland, 78, of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Iowa, passed away on Sunday January 20, 2013, at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa. A Celebration of Life Service will be planned for late spring in Iowa. Nell was born in Cresco, Ia on August 29, 1934 to Ray and Madge Farnsworth. She attended school there through high school. She graduated from Luther College in Decorah, with a degree in Business Education. While at Luther she met Ralph Rolland, and they were married on June 9, 1957. They had four children: Brian (Roxanne) Rolland of Mt Vernon, Brent (Sandy) Rolland of Clear Lake, and Richard Rolland of Key West, Fl. Nancy (Pat) Jorgensen of Vinton, Ia. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Together, Nell and Ralph lived in several Iowa communities including Eagle Grove, Stanhope, Jewel, Clarion and Vinton. After Ralph's retirement from education, they moved to Mesa, Ariz., during the winters and would return to Iowa during the summers to spend time traveling and visiting family and friends. Nell was a third generation member of PEO, active in both athletic and band boosters while her children were involved in those activities and an avid Green Bay Packers Fan. Nell had an amazing love for her 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers and memorials, the family requests that a special act of generosity to your own children or grandchildren be given to celebrate how special they are in your lives.
