DOWS, IA — Thelma E. Sefton, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Andrews Funeral Home 516 First St. S.E., Belmond. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Pastor Brian Cushman will be officiating the service. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Those wishing to express their sympathies in memorials may address them in memory of Thelma Sefton to Andrews Funeral Home Box 224 Belmond, IA 50421. Arrangements are by Andrews Funeral Home Belmond.

Thelma Estaline Sefton was born June 11, 1920, in Webster City to Harry and Ethel (Jones) Sefton. She graduated from high school in Clarion and continued her appreciation for education at Drake University in pursuit of her teaching degree. After graduating from college Thelma taught in a country school. Thelma had a strong passion for education which was surrounded with love of her school children. She took great pride in her profession and valued the needs of her students. Thelma then taught in Galt, Popejoy and Dows where she retired after 35 years from her teaching profession. She continued as an educator by volunteering as a Sunday school teacher for some time at the Presbyterian Church in Dows. Thelma had a fondness for traveling where she participated on senior bus trips to venture around the countryside and seeing the sights with her friends and family. Thelma also had a passion for sewing and gardening. She enjoyed volunteering her time to be an active part of the community. Thelma’s legacy will be missed as an outstanding instructor, a caring neighbor and a loving family member.

The memory of Thelma will be in the hearts and minds of her many nieces and nephews and with her extended nieces and nephews, along with her neighbors and countless friends. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; Harry and Ethel, sisters Irene, Evelyn, Cleo, brother Evert, and brother-in-law Nick Nicholson.
