October 8, 1922 ---- August 26, 1998

AUSTIN, MN -- The funeral for Dorothy Mae Porterfield will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church in Austin, with the Rev. Gordon Larson officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Mrs. Porterfield, 75, of Austin, a former area farm homemaker, died Wednesday (Aug. 26, 1998) at Adams Health Care Center in Adams.

Dorothy Mae Kosier was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Watertown, S.D., attended public schools and graduated from Watertown High School. She was a checker and bookkeeper for the first Red Owl Supermarket in Watertown. On Nov. 26, 1941, she married Richard Porterfield in Watertown. They farmed in Wright County, Iowa, until 1947 and then purchased a farm east of Austin where they farmed until moving into town in 1984. In addition to homemaking, she worked at Dorothy's Fabrics in downtown Austin for 15 years. An active member of Grace Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school teacher, DVBS teacher, Awana leader, held WMS offices and was a member of the choir. Mrs. Porterfield enjoyed gardening, flowers and crafts.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Robert of Dallas, Texas, and Michael of Rochester; a daughter, Peggy Porterfield Oquist of Cypress, Calif., seven grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Kosier, Richard Kosier and Pat Kosier, all of Watertown, and Claude Kosier of Corpus Christi, Texas; and three sisters, Arlene (Mrs. Dugan) Woodring of Pasadena, Texas, Marjorie Hoass of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Evelyn (Mrs. Bill) Fielbelkorn of Watertown. A brother preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
