GRAND MEADOW, MN -- Hazel M. Benson, 84, a longtime Grand Meadow resident, died this morning (Nov. 9, 1995) at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Grand Meadow where she had resided three months.

Hazel M. Arends was born Nov. 20, 1910, in Wright County, Iowa, and married Dale Fred Benson on Dec. 10, 1928, in Alexander, Iowa. In 1949, they moved to Grand Meadow and farmed in the area. Her husband died in 1955. A longtime member of United Church of Grand Meadow, she belonged to the ladies aid and taught Sunday school. Mrs. Benson had been a volunteer at Meadow Manor Nursing Home.

Survivors include five sons, Dale R. and Reggie, both of Grand Meadow, Max of Houston, Rex of Plano, Texas, and Duane of Lanesboro; two daughters, Dixie (Mrs. Ron) Mathews of Rhinelander, Wis., and ValJean (Mrs. Tom) Thorsen of Grand Meadow; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Henry Arends of Belmond, Iowa, Orville Arends of Alexander, Iowa, and Richard Arends of Kanawha, Iowa; and a sister, Mrs. Lena Van Dusseldorp of Alexander. He was preceded in death by a sister, a granddaugther and an infant brother. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
