WANAMINGO, MN -- The funeral for Bernice B. Glestad will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dale Lutheran Church in rural Wanamingo, with the Rev. Michael Lockerby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Glestad, 93, of Wanamingo, a former farm homemaker, died Saturday (Sept. 11, 2004) at Kenyon Sunset Home.

Bernice Betsy Nodland was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Badger, Iowa, moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, at age 5 and later moved to Kenyon. She attended Ugland School in rural Kenyon through the eighth grade and attended a year of high school in Zumbrota before returning to Eagle Grove, where she graduated from high school. On June 29, 1935, she married Albert Palmer Glestad in Eagle Grove. They farmed until 1971, then moved into Wanamingo, and their son took over the farming. Mr. Glestad died Sept. 7, 1982. Mrs. Glestad was a member of Dale Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid and Lydia Circle. In 1996, she became one of the first residents of Heritage Hill in Wanamingo. She was a past member of the Wanamingo Extension group and enjoyed sewing, baking, crocheting, quilting and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Edward (Linnae) of Wanamingo; a daughter, Beulah Estrem of Wanamingo; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Segney Crement of Bellair Bluffs, Fla.; and a brother, Jory (Virginia) Nodland of Lakewood, Colo. An infant grandson and three brothers preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.
