MEDIAPOLIS, Iowa -- Francis "Frank" C. Umthun, 76, of Mediapolis, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at his home. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Father David Steinle will be officiating. Interment will take place in St Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will meet with friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Mediapolis Ambulance Service, Great River Hospice, and St. Mary's Dodgeville Cemetery Association.

Frank was born on January 8, 1936, in Burlington, the son of Steve and Verona Holtkamp Umthun. On October 24, 1959, he married Mary Ann Fedler in West Point. He attended Eagle Grove High School. He has been employed with the family business of Umthun Trucking his entire life. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville and was a Knights of Columbus member.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary Ann Umthun of Mediapolis; three daughters, Lisa and John Wiegel of Illinois City, Illinois; Susan and Rex Krueger of Muscatine, and Becky and Bill Miller of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Umthun of Clarion, and Mark Umthun of Eagle Grove; and two sisters, Bernadette Jorgensen of Omaha, Nebraska, and Donna Culmer of Searcy, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, four sisters and one brother.
