August 18, 1880 --- October 24, 1956
Mrs. Elizabeth Bridges was born August 18, 1880, on a farm near Dows, Wright County, Iowa. She was one of a family of three children. Her parents were Fred and Elvira Fanslow. On September 11, 1901, Elizabeth Fanslow, 21, and Herman W. Bridges, 25, were married at Clarion, Iowa. The couple began housekeeping on a farm near Dows, and they lived there for twelve years, until 1913, when they moved to a farm near the center of Liberty Township. They made their home on this farm until 1928, when they moved to the town of Klemme, where Mr. Bridges was employed by the Klemme Cooperative Grain Company. Five years later, he died at age 58.
They were members of the Methodist Church. For the last 23 years, since 1923 when her husband died, Mrs. Bridges continued to make her home in Klemme. She was an active and interesting person, and her children and grandchildren loved to call and visit with her, and she was always helping some neighbor. She was kind and spoke well of everyone. To sum up her life, let's just say, "She was a good neighbor."
It was on Wednesday, October 24, 1956, that Elizabeth Bridges died of a heart attack at the
age of 76 years, 2 months, and 6 days. She leaves 41 living descendants. Four daughters: Maude (Mrs. Paul Stille), De Ridder, Louisiana; Faye (Mrs. Elmer Beier), Klemme, Iowa; Gladys (Mrs. Walter Drake), Waukegan, Illinois; Irene (Mrs. Troy Davis), De Ridder, Louisiana. Three sons: Orvel and Glen of Klemme. Iowa, and Cecil of Thornton, Iowa.
