Spc. Daniel Carlson, 21, Running Springs, Calif.

A military memorial service for Daniel Carlson, 21, was held at the Goldfield United Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon, November 14. It was officiated by Pastor Christina Perkins and Chaplain Mike Crawford. Carlson was killed in Afghanistan on Friday, November 9, 2012. He was serving with the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Division in the Kandahar province. Spc. Carlson, a native of Running Springs, California, served as a CH-47 Chinook Helicopter Repairer with the 3rd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii. Spc. Carlson joined the Army in 2010. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star; Global War on Terrorism Medal; Army Service Ribbon; NATO Medal; and an Aviator Badge. Several honors are pending for Carlson posthumously. Spc. Carlson is survived by both his parents and his wife. His father, Craig Carlson, is the Director of Crossroads Youth & Family Center in Goldfield.
