July 15, 1879 --- February 2, 1932

Peter S. Baker died suddenly Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, 1932, while butchering with W. G. Vugteveen at the P. Ver Burg farm four miles north of Rock Valley. They had butchered one hog and had had lunch and had gone out again. Mr. Vugteveen was scalding the second hog and Mrs. Baker was coming with his knife to scrape when he suddenly called "Oh Bill" and fell into Mr. Vugteveen's arms. He then sat down on the wagon box and died in a short time. While at lunch Mr. Baker was his usual self and was joking with the rest.

Mr. Baker was born in Freeport, Illinois, July 15, 1879. At the age of seven years the family moved to South Dakota and later to Wright county, Iowa. In 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Dena Kragt. The Baker family moved to a farm northwest of Rock Valley in 1910 where he lives until 1924 when he moved to Rock Valley where he had lived ever since. About a year ago he had a new house built on West Third street.

Deceased is survived by his wife, and three children, John of Doon, Agnes at home, and Nellie (Mrs. John Noble) of this vicinity. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. J. P. Baker, two brothers. Sim and Cornie, and one sister, Kate, all of Orange City.

Funeral services were held Friday at the home at 1:30 and at 2 o'clock at the Christian Reformed church, conducted by Rev. J. Critters. Interment took place in Valley View cemetery and was in charge of the Funeral Association.
