John Prehm Jr., 88, of Eagle Grove passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion. Funeral services for John Prehm Jr. will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 10:30 AM at Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Holmes Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, October 5, 2012, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

John was born on September 25, 1924, in Eagle Grove to John and Beatrice (Conklin) Prehm. He attended High School in Eagle Grove. John enlisted in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines as a tank commander. After his honorable discharge he worked for his father at Prehm Transfer. He met Jeanette Thompson in Ames and they were married at the Little Brown Church in 1947. In 1951, they moved to Holmes, where he worked for Bernie Case in the grocery store business. He later bought the store in Holmes and it was well known as Johnnie’s Food Store. He operated the store until the mid 1960’s. He then worked for Umthun Trucking as a driver and then at the trouble desk until his retirement in 1986. He was a long-standing member of Holmes Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeannie; children, Randy (Coleen) Prehm of Streetman, TX, Dan (Deb) Prehm of Eagle Grove and Terry Prehm-Grover of Brooklyn; grandchildren, Todd (Sue) Prehm, Deena (Rod) Cousins, Mike (Amber) Prehm, Missy (Dickie) Walls, Spencer (Terry) Hasch, Cindy (Brett) Poling, Greg (Bridget) Prehm, Christie (Scott) Neuwoehner, Tracie (Kyle) Corcoran, Andrea Sofranko and Rachel (Jake) Solem; 24 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
