Betty Shirley age 81, of Perry died on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Family will hold a private graveside service at the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Memorials will be given to the family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home.

Betty Louise Shirley was born on January 4, 1931 at Goldfield, IA to Alex Sander and Lillian Louise (Williams) Schnell. She attended school at Goldfield, IA, and graduated from Goldfield High School. She was united in marriage to Richard D. Shirley on May 20th, 1951 at Fort Dodge, IA. Betty worked for the Perry Police Department as a dispatcher and retired in 1990. Betty was a member of the First Christian Church in Perry. She enjoyed making crafts and baking. She also liked watching sports.

Betty was preceded in death by husband, Richard Shirley, parents, Alex and Lillian Schnell, a sister, Marge Trask, a son-in-law, Harold Cecil Streeter, and an infant son Thomas Richard Shirley. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Streeter of West Des Moines, IA, Valoree McPhillen and her husband Jim of Irving, TX, Elizabeth Richardson of Glendale Heights, IL, and Melanie Shirley of Troutman, NC, a brother, Roger Schnell of Wapello, IA, sisters, Dorothy Reichter and husband Beryl of Goldfield, IA and Edna Stoll of Eagle Grove, IA, grandchildren, Roy Jacobson of Grimes, IA, Steven R. Jacobson Sr. and wife Jennifer of Perry, and Rabecca Glenn and husband Rob of Des Moines, IA, great grandchildren, Aimee and Micheal Jacobson, Steven Jacobson Jr., Shelby, Dakota, and Justin Jacobson, Kelsey Heit, Samantha Comer, and Alex and Nickol Jasso, and great great grandchildren, Caleb and Keilah Heit.
