May 6, 1901 --- September 3, 1987

Edward L. Hopkey, the son of Arthur and Lena (Meyer) Hopkey, was born on May 6, 1901 in Alexander, Iowa. He was educated in the Franklin County Schools. In 1929 he was united in marriage to Jennie Gealow. They farmed in Franklin County until 1935, when they moved to Belmond, Iowa. He retired in 1966. They moved to the McBurney Apartments in 1983. Edward died on Thursday, September 3, 1987 at the the Belmond Community Hospital. Services will be held at the United Methodist Church, Belmond, Iowa, on September 8, 1987 at 1:30 P.M. Services will be conducted by Reverend Larry G. Willey. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery, Belmond, Iowa. Pallbearers were; Donald "Red" Sheriff, Karl Loeffler, Paul Dieger, Don Thompson, Arnold Wendell, and Paul Trees. Honorary Bearers were; Mervin Dannewitz, John Zeiger, Ed Williams, Roy Cummings, Henry Dieger, and Ray Frye.

Edward is survived by his wife, Jennie, one daughter, Mrs. Duane (Norma Jean) Thompson of Belmond, Iowa. One son, Jerry Hopkey of Rivera Beach, Florida. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and one brother, Clarence Hopkey of San Diego, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers. Tenold Funeral Homes in Belmond was in charge of the arrangements.
