January 29, 1931 --- August 18, 2012

Mary Jo Lamb Ludwig Allende was born January 29, 1931, the fourth of five children to Cecelia McKieght Lamb and Harold D. Lamb in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The family moved to San Diego in October 1936. She attended Alice Bierney Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High, and graduated from San Diego High School in 1948. She then attended San Diego City College 1948-1950. She married John S. Ludwig in 1952. She retired as a staff secretary to a corporate Vice President from General Dynamics after 37 years of service, working entirely in the Operations and the Quality Assurance Departments. As a manifestation of her abilities and worth, she was hired back under contract for two more years. Mary Jo, nicknamed MOJO, was a strikingly attractive woman and a beautiful compassionate person. Her personality affected everyone she met, her sense of humor was contagious. Mary Jo loved to play tennis, dancing, traveling and camping. She had a trailer in the Convair Recreation Association Park in Julian for 30 years, as did her sisters and their husbands where she had many fond memories. She also enjoyed the peace and serenity of the Allende vacation home on the Sea of Cortez south of Mulege, BCS, Mexico. She managed the SDHS Alumni Association Office from 2001-2009 and was Chairperson of the Class of 1948 Reunion Committee.

She is survived by her husband John Allende, two sisters: Margie Kay Lamb Daynes and Phyllis Lamb Crawford as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Cecelia and Harold Lamb, and infant sister, Shirley Lamb, her brother, Jack Lamb and her first husband John S. Ludwig. Mary Jo was diagnosed October 2008 with inoperable pancreatic cancer. She died peacefully Saturday, August 18, 2012, at her home with family surrounding her. She received holy rites by Father Bob Blessing of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, La Mesa. We wish to thank Kaiser Permanente Oncology and KP Hospice at home for their professional and tender care. She is grievously missed by all whom knew and loved her, including her maltese dog, Sammy, who remained at her bed side to the end.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Vista del Cerro Community Club House, 7301 Caminito del Greco, San Diego 92120, Saturday, September 1st, from 1 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers and in her honor please make a donation to the SDHS Foundation, P.O. Box 86504; San Diego, CA 92138; designated to The Mary Jo Lamb Scholarship Fund.
