June 23, 1857 --- April 22, 1954
Funeral Services were held Saturday afternoon at the Kastler Funeral Home in Eagle Grove for George Blewett, 96, who died April 22 at the Miner Nursing Home in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Clifford Brooks of the First Christian church was in charge of the last rites. George Blewett was born on June 23, 1857 near Platteville, Wis. He was the sixth of fourteen children born to John and Mary Ann Blewett, all of whom preceded him in death. He had reached the age of 96 years, 9 months and 30 days. Mr. Blewett spent his boyhood in Wisconsin, moving as a young man to Grundy County, Iowa. It was there he was married to Amelia Newell, Feb. 3, 1885. Two children were born to this union, Archie Allen, now of Goldfield, and Hazel May (Mrs. Homer M. Peck) who died in 1945. The family farmed near Kingsley and also south of Britt, midway between Britt and Kanawha, the latter town had not yet come into being. In the early nineties a group of farmers in that vicinity went together and built a cheese factory, locating it along the present Highway 111 in the northeast corner of section 4 of Amsterdam township near the Erin township line. Mr. Blewett was made secretary of the cheese factory and also carried on his farming activities. Other places in this little village of Cuba were a general store and a post office. The family moved to Goldfield in 1900, living there until 1918 when Mr. and Mrs. Blewett moved to Minnesota. They returned to Goldfield in 1929, making their home near Hardy and in Goldfield. He was preceded in death by his wife; his daughter; and three grandsons. Surviving are his son, the son-in-law, a granddaughter and three great grandchildren.
