Funeral Services for Mrs. Leon Benton, 51, of Holmes, who died Thursday at Clarion Memorial Hospital were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Kastler Funeral Home at Eagle Grove. Burial in Rosehill cemetery in Eagle Grove. Mrs. Benton underwent major surgery in September. She is survived by two sons, William of Eagle Grove, Earl of Holmes; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Manning of Webster City, Mrs. Douglas Wolf of Clarion; three brothers Thomas Clark of Seattle, Wash., George Clark of Centerview, Mo. and Erie/c Clark of Galt; two sisters Mrs. Raymond Clark of Galt and Mrs. Harry Innes of Storm Lake, and 11 grandchildren.

Martha Etta Benton of Holmes, eldest daughter of Marcius and Jenett Clark, was born November 20, 1902, on a farm in Polk county, Missouri , near Bolwar, and departed this life in the Clarion Memorial hospital, Nov. 11, 1954 at the age of 51 years, 11 months and 21 days. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 p. m. at the Kastler funeral home in Eagle Grove with interment in Rose Hill cemetery. Casket bearers were Thomas D. Benton, Evan Benton, Myron Benton, Robert Schlader, all nephews, and Edward Stupka and James Stroup.
Rev. Paul Rust was clergyman and Mrs. Theo. Koltvet soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Rust. On February 12, 1922, she was united in marriage to Leon Jefferson Benton and they began their married life on a farm near Dows. To this union were born four children.
They made their home on a number o farms in Wright county before coming to Holmes in 1934 where Martha lived at the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leon five years ago, her mother and father and one brother. Surviving are her four children William of Eagle Grove, Earl E of Holmes, Marie, Mrs. Harold Manning of Webster City and Francos, Mrs. Douglas Wolf of Clarion, and three brothers, nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. At the age of 13 she joined the Bethel church near Galt, later transferring her membership to the Holmes Baptist church. She was also a member of the Baptist Mission Circle.
Martha was always ready to help those in need, and ready to give of her strength, loving to have her family and friends about her, and never too busy to help friends in need.
