John C. Buhner was born on September 30, 1906, to John G. and Rosa Worby Buhner at Fulda, Minnesota. In 1917, he moved with his family to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where his parents established the Eagle Grove Greenhouse. On June 7, 1933, he was united in marriage to Clarice Moser. He and his wife, Clarice, later went into partnership with Cecil and Laura Wilde to operate the greenhouse. Following his retirement from the greenhouse in 1961, he raised Chinchillas full time until 1970. He served his country during World War II overseas in England in the Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion and the Society of Iowa Florists. He served his community by serving on the Eagle Grove City Council and the Eagle Grove Chamber of Commerce.

John C. Buhner died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at the Clarion Care Center in Clarion at the age of 91. Survivors include two sisters, Laura Wilde and Freda Fisher, both of Eagle Grove; and one sister-in-law, Dolores Buhner, Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clarice in August of 1985; nine brothers and sisters, and one sister in infancy, Charles, May, Anna, Roy, Hattie, John, Sadie, and Clarence.

Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at 2 p.m., at the Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Reverend H. W. Schiller officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of the arrangements.
