DORA WILDE

Dora A. Thomas, daughter of James and Wilhelmina Thomas, was born in Noble County, Ind., on the 11th day of May, 1859. At an early age she moved westward with her parents, first to Illinois, near Galva, later to Iowa, settling on a farm near Gowrie. Here she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage on December 12, 1880, with John F. Wilde at Gowrie. To this union was born one son, Clarence F. Wilde, who preceded his parents in death during the terrible flu epidemic in the fall of 1918. Mrs. Wilde and her husband lived for a number of years in Lake City, and moved from there to Eagle Grove in 1897. She continued to reside here until June, 1930. Then on account of failing health she went to live at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Home in Mason City, where she resided continuously until she passed away. Here husband passed away in November, 1924. In 1907, Mrs. Wilde became a member of the local Congregational church. She was a member of the Junietta Rebekah Lodge of Eagle Grove, and also of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. She was a great lover of birds and flowers, and she spent much of her time raising both of them until her strength failed her. She loved her family and her friends, and was keenly interested in all the happenings of the community.

Mrs. Wilde was the last of a family of five children, having passed away on the 20th day of October, 1942, at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 9 days. She is survived by one grandson, Cecil F. Wilde of Eagle Grove, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends, who mourn her passing.
