Freda Arlene Nichols was born October 5, 1922, the daughter of Jack and Anna Buhner Nichols at Eagle Grove. She received her education in the Eagle Grove School system. She was united in marriage to Maurice Olson of Thor, May 23, 1942, at Bethany, Missouri. Following their marriage, he entered the U.S. Air Corps. She continued living in the couples Thor residence. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Mr. Olson returned to Thor where he and Mrs. Olson raised their family. She was a member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Thor, and an active member of the Rebecca Circle within the church.

Freda Arlene Olson died September 19, 1991, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She had suffered heart failure on the previous Monday, and was transported to Des Moines from Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. She was 68 years, 11 months, and 11 days of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her Husband; three sons, Maurice J., Thor; Ronald, Mission Hills, California; and Dean, Humboldt; four daughters, Mrs. Henry (Shirley) Vinnece, Laurel, Maryland; Mrs. Warren (Joyce) Ruberg; Mrs. Richard (LaDonna) Van Gorp, and Mrs. Mark (Maurene) Tokheim, all of Thor; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Virginia) Egemo, Eagle Grove; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Monday, September 23 at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. The Rev. H.W. Schiller officiated at the 2 pm services and burial was in the West Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor. The Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
