Warren Dean Golly was born in Sauk Centre, Minn., on Jan. 13, 1929, and left this world on March 26, 2012. He was the fourth of seven children born to John Rodney and Viola Mae (Cameron) Golly, including John Marvin, Hartley Lee, Rodney Duane, Donald Dee, Ruth Ellen (Maxwell) and Leonard Leon. Shortly after Warren's birth, the family returned to Zearing, where he attended school and graduated from high school in a class of 14 in 1947. After high school, Warren went to work for Snowgren Produce in Zearing and Marshalltown. It was while he was at this job in Marshalltown that he met and married Aina Marie Savage on April 23, 1950. Together, they have two children, John Dean (10/1/1956) and Laura Marie (6/3/1960).

Warren served his country in the Army from 1952 to 1955 during the Korean War. After returning home from Germany (one of the posts at which he was stationed), he accepted a position with the USDA as a poultry grader. This job allowed him and his family to meet and develop life-long friendships with people in Ottumwa, Sumner, Des Moines, Eagle Grove and Estherville (all in Iowa) and Willmar and Marshall in Minnesota. He retired from the USDA in 1986 after 33 years. After retiring, he and Aina returned to his hometown of Zearing to be closer to family.

His hobbies included traveling and running a hobby farm that included (at one time or another) raising chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, peacocks, guineas, cows and pigs. His travels included the entirety of the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), Mexico, Canada, Ireland and The Holy Land. Warren's passion was creating memories by stopping in to see his many friends during his travels. He could be counted on to share not only the good times, but to stand beside you during the hard times, too. He was a man who rarely knew a stranger.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, (Aina); children, John (Lyn) Golly and Laura Golly; four grandchildren, Amanda (Tina) Waaraniemi-Golly, John (Dupreen Roberts) Golly Jr., Tanya (Kevin Fuchs) Golly, and Kiel (PFC US Marine Corp) Golly; 4 great-grandchildren, Alyssa Waaraniemi, John Golly III, Peyton Golly and Caiden Golly; one sister, Ruth; eight brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. Fredregill Funeral Home, in Zearing, has been entrusted with the care of Warren and his family.
