April 15, 1832 --- February 24, 1922

Brief mention was made in The Independent last week of the death of “Grandma “ Elliott of Eagle Grove mother of Dexter W. Elliott of this city, who passed away Friday Feb. 24, 1922 but particulars were not available at the time. She had been ill but a few moments before her death and up until the last was in complete possession of her faculties, recognizing all her acquaintance and performed her church and Sunday school duties as usual. Had she lived until April she would have been 90 years old. In Eagle Grove she was known as “Grandma” Elliott to everyone who knew her. She formerly lived in Hawarden and many of the older residents who knew her well learned of her death with sincere regret. Private services were held Feb. 27th at the home of her daughter, Josephine and public services were conducted afterwards at the Methodist church. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery at Eagle Grove

Jane Scott was born April 15, 1832 in the city of Donegal, Province of Ulster, Ireland, of Scotch-Irish parents. She came to America on a sailing vessel which made the voyage in six weeks. She married August 7, 1856 to Robert Elliott and they lived in Boston and Fort Fairfield, Maine, until they came west to Sanborn, Iowa, in November, 1881. Early in life she was confirmed and baptized in the Episcopal Church and on coming west joined the Methodist church. Her husband was a soldier in the Civil war and during his absence she remained at home to take care of their small children.

She is survived by three sons, William Elliott of Ross, Wyoming; Charles Elliott of Eagle Grove and Dexter Elliott of Hawarden; and two daughters Mrs. C. C. Kemp of Stafford Spring, Conn., and Josephine of Eagle Grove. She also leaves a brother, Wm. Scott of Thermopolis, Wyo., and a sister at West Bridgewater, Mass., and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
