Morse "Morrie" Nelson, 78, of Goldfield, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield with Rev. Sara Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. A visitation will begin at the church on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, Webster City.
Morse Wayne Nelson, son of Oscar and Grace Younglove Nelson was born on November 20, 1933 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended Eagle Grove Elementary and High School, graduating in 1952. He married Beverly Kay Reichter on June 20, 1954 at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. Morrie worked for Pat's Market in Eagle Grove and the Des Moines Register and Tribune, as a bundle route carrier until August of 1954, when he and his wife moved to Clinton, Iowa. He was employed by the C.& N.W. Railway locomotive shops as an electrician apprentice. He then joined General Electric Company of Morrison, IL. where he worked until August of 1970. The couple returned to Goldfield where he built owned and operated a supermarket, self service gas station and cafe. He and his wife operated the business until his retirement on August 1, 1991.
Survivors include his loving wife Beverly; sons Steven, David, and Jeffrey Nelson all of Goldfield; daughter, Michelle (Arnold) Kurfman also of Goldfield; grandchildren, Angela (Adam) Goodell; Rebecca (Aaron) Goodell; Jonathon (Chandra) Nelson; Stephanie Nelson; Katlin Kurfman; Brennan Kurfman; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Elenor Askvig of Webster City; brother-in-law, Duane Reichter and wife Flo of Florida; special sister-in-law, Jeanine Reichter; special nephew, Mark Reichter; and many nieces and nephews. Morrie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marge Nelson Sheets and Maxine Warner; brothers-in-law, Harry Askvig; Carroll Warner; Neal Reichter; sisters-in-law, Eloise Richter; nephews, Joe Richter; Mark Warner and Lyle Askvig. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield.
