Cecil Francis Wilde was born November 25, 1908 at Eagle Grove, the son of Clarence and Emily (Conkings) Wilde. He was educated in the Eagle Grove schools, graduating in 1927. He then attended Iowa State College at Ames for two years. He was employed by Gildner Clothing, Clarion, for a time, and the Eagle Grove Greenhouse. He was united in marriage to Laura Buhner of Eagle Grove on July 1, 1937. He served in the Navy construction branch, known as the Sea Bees, from 1944 to 1946, returning home to Eagle Grove where he operated the Eagle Grove Greenhouse in partnership with his brother-in-law, John Buhner. Mr. and Mrs. Wilde became sole owners of the business after John retired in 1961. Mr. Wilde retired in 1973, working part-time until 1984. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, member of the Chapter and Council, Commandrey at Clarion, OES, and the American Legion.

Cecil Wilde died at his home Tuesday morning, September 25, 1990, at the age of 81 years, and 10 months. He had been in ill-health for some time. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Clarence and Paul, Eagle Grove; one daughter, Mrs. Dean (Marilyn) Helmick, Eagle Grove; seven grand-children; and four great-children.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Friday, September 28, at the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Scott C. Hall Officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
