JOHN BUHNER IS VICTIM OF ANEMIA

Death Relieved Months of Suffering Saturday Evening, August 15, at 8:10 P.M.

John Buhner died at his home in this city Saturday evening after an illness of nearly two years duration. His malady was diagnosed as pernicious anaemia and everything that medical skill or loving care could suggest was done for him without avail.

Mr. Buhner established the Eagle Grove Greenhouse in 1917, coming here from Fulda, Minn., where he had engaged in the same business. He built Eagle Grove's first greenhouse, adding new units as his business expanded. He was very successful and kept abreast of the times in his service and facilities for giving his patrons the best, adding artifical refrigeration and oil heat when these attachments became practical for greenhouse purposes. Mr. Buhner was fair and square in his business dealings and his word was as good as his bond. The many friends of the family extend the surviving relatives their sincere sympathy in the hour of their great sorrow.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were: John Worby, Geo. Worby, Frank O'Connor, John O'Connor of Dwight, Illinois; Gilbert Worby of Tipton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Dalin of Dundee, Minnesota; Mrs. Chas. Jacoby and son of Sious Falls, South Dakota; F. H. Thompson of Worthington, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Worby, Mr. and Mrs. K. J. Huber and son, Milton Worby of Luverne; Mr. and Mrs. Neil Conner of Ledyard; Mr. Becker and son of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Brown of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Willowdson of Britt; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin of Austin, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. John Leonard of Clarion; Herman Anderson of Dows; Mrs. August Huenbold and sons of Algona; Arthur Willemeyer, Klemme; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cody of Carpenter, Iowa; and Mrs. Ida Green of Humboldt.

Obituary by Rev. W. G. Muhleman

John Gottlob Buhner was born in Obendorf, Germany, December 16, 1865. On April 5, 1882 he came to America and went to Kankakee, Illinois, where he worked out as a farm hand for a while. He then went to Streator, Illinois, where he started a garden of his own. from there he moved to Fulda, Minnesota, where he farmed for a time, then again he took up gardening. On May 20, 1917 he came to Eagle Grove and started the Eagle Grove Greenhouse, there being none here.

On July 1, 1889, he was united in marriage to Rosa Worby of Fulda, Minnesota. To this union eleven children were born. They are as follows: A little son who died in infancy, Charles who died at the age of ten years, Mrs. H. O. Thompson of Eagle Grove, Mrs. J. W. Nichols of Chicago, LeRoy of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Hattie, John and Laura of Eagle Grove, Sadie (deceased), Freda and Clarence of Eagle Grove.

Mr. Buhner was baptized in the German Lutheran church when he was a boy, before leaving Germany. When he came to this country he attended the German Methodist church. Mr. Buhner was a devout man and knew his Bible well. He has always most stoutly declared his faith in Christ as his personal Savior. He held the church as a most sacred institution and the building as the very house of God. He had a tender disposition as he might be expected to have dealing as he did with tender plants and delicately fragrant flowers. He hated all impurities of the heart and often deplored the condition of worldly people of today. He believed in raising children to be obedient, believing that the disobedient and wrong doers would receive their punishment. With his rapidly failing strength, he quoted in the German language, the words found in Prov. 30-17: "The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it."

After a lengthy period of illness, he passed away last Saturday evening at 8:10 on August 15, 1931. At the time of his departure he was 65 years, 7 months, and 29 days old. He was left an orphan when he was a little boy and has no known relatives aside from the members of his family already mentioned and two grand children, Arlene and Virginia Nichols.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. G. Muhleman from the text found in Isa. 35:1. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
