Mike Messenger died on Sunday, February 19th 2012 in St. Louis, Missouri. Mike had resided in Chicago, Illinois until recently where he was a writer and poet. Mike graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1969 and then moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa where he attended the University of Northern Iowa where he received his teaching degree, specializing in English and Language Studies. Later, he was accepted to the Iowa Writers Workshop and went on to write many poems and prose.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Howard (H.T. Bud) Messenger and his brother Mark Messenger of Eagle Grove, Iowa. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Messenger of Eagle Grove, his sister, Ann (Messenger) McCormick and brother-in-law, Tim McCormick of St. Louis, MO.

A private memorial service was held. Contributions may be made in Mike's name to the Animal Welfare League, Development Office, 10305 Southwest Highway, Chicago Ridge, Illinois 60415.
