Iowa City, IA --- Ronald Eide, 67, died June 8, 2009 at his residence in Iowa City. Per Ron's wishes, his body was cremated and no services are planned. He was born in Belmond, Iowa and lived in the Adel area for many years before moving to Iowa City in 1967. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a graduate of Drake University. Ron taught for many years at West High in Iowa City. He started one of the first alternative high schools in the state. His greatest gift was seeing the potential in students and encouraging them to be their very best. Ron raised greyhounds and he trained hunting dogs. He was a true outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his beloved grandchildren. He will be missed by his wife, Roberta (Eakle) of Iowa City; daughter, Leigh Eide-Hull of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Hailey and Jack; his sister, Deborah Eide of West Des Moines, many other family members, friends and a vast number of students. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harland and Ione Eide. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of donor's choice, the Great Outdoors Fund, 11407 NW Jester Park Dr., Granger, Iowa 50109 or donor's choice.
